Original RACKIT™ Assembly Instructions

Record Rack
1. Bolt all three beams to one end frame. Make sure holes for record dividers in top and front beams are facing in (see exploded view above. When tightening bolts, hold on to beam with counter force to prevent twisting.

2. Repeat with second end frame. If you have a number of RACKITs to assemble, save your fingers and use the 4 mm hex-bit provided, with an electric screwdriver or drill.

3. Install record dividers longer leg vertical.

4. Install tablepins, points up, in top of end frames to allow stacking.Hammer the tablepins all the way in.

Component Rack
1. Fit shelf into grooves in endframes (top side of shelf is level, bottom is recessed).

2. Insert bolts and tighten until heads are level with the wood surface.

3. For 10- and 15-inch models, install the beam. When tightening bolts, hold on to beam with counter force to prevent twisting.

4. Install tablepins, points up, in top of end frames to allow stacking. Hammer the tablepins all the way in.

Troubleshooting Guide

Stripped joint bolt hex head.
To prevent stripping, be sure to insert the hex wrench fully into the head of the joint bolt. If stripping does occur, call us and we will replace the bolt(s) free of charge.

Beam splitting.

If a beam should split when installing the joint bolts, call us and we will replace the beam free of charge.

Record Rack "rocks" on a flat surface.
Rack is not square, owing to slight twisting of the beams when the joint bolts were tightened. To remedy, loosen bolts slightly (1/8 turn) and twist the entire rack until it rests flat. Then retighten bolts while holding each beam with counter force

Dolly
1. Install tablepins.

2. Insert caster stems into sockets and press in until they are seated

Tabletop
Fits on top unit of any stack, providing it with a load-carrying surface.

Record Cabinets
For the model with door, decide if you want it to open left or right. To change direction, turn the unit upside down (it is symmetrical). Now install the tablepins.

The wire dividers are removable; simply pull them out of their sockets.

Drawer Units
Drawers pull out to a safety stop. To remove, lift up and unhook.

All drawers have been waxed for easy sliding. The waxed surfaces may be tacky after standing. If a drawer sticks when you first use it, lift up to break the tackiness, then pull the drawer out. It should now slide freely.

Drawer dividers are all removable. In addition, CD-180 drawers can be configured with either nine identical compartments, or three going from front to back.

Tablepins
To facilitate stacking, install tablepins in the top alignment holes of all units. Be sure to hammer the tablepins all the way in. If they are protruding too far, they may damage the tabletop. It is OK if the point of the tablepin becomes flattened on hammering.

Warning: Beware of the file drawer syndrome the tipping of a unit when one or more heavily loaded drawers are pulled out without adequate counterweight. To counterbalance, place heavy objects on top (components, a full disc cabinet, a television set, etc.). Also pull out only one drawer at a time.

Safety Clips
Use safety clips to secure top drawer unit to unit below. Helps prevent the "file drawer syndrome." Attach clip at center of cross braces on each side of the units.
