RACKIT™ System 19 Assembly Instructions

Component Rack 19
1. Fit shelf into grooves in end frames (top side of shelf is level, bottom is recessed).

2. Insert bolts and tighten until heads are level with the wood surface.

3. For 10- and 15-inch models, install the beam. When tightening bolts, hold on to beam with counter force.

4. Install tablepins, points up, in tops of end frames to allow stacking. Hammer the tablepins all the way in.

Component Rack 19 Rail Model
1. Bolt beams to one end frame. When tightening bolts, hold on to beam with counter force to prevent twisting.

2. Repeat with second end frame. If you have a number of racks to assemble, save your fingers and use the 4mm hex-bit provided, with an electric screwdriver or drill.

3. Install tablepins, points up, in tops of end frames to allow stacking. Hammer the tablepins all the way in.

Troubleshooting Guide
Stripped joint bolt hex head.
To prevent stripping, be sure to insert the hex wrench fully into the head of the joint bolt. If stripping does occur, call us and we will replace the bolt(s) free of charge.

Beam splitting.
If a beam should split when installing the joint bolts, call us and we will replace it free of charge.

Rack "rocks" on a flat surface.
Rack is not square, owing to slight twisting of the beams when the joint bolts were tightened. To remedy, loosen bolts slightly (1/8 turn) and twist the entire rack until it rests flat. Then retighten bolts while holding each beam with counter force.

Dolly
1. Install tablepins.

2. Insert caster stems into sockets and press in until they are seated. Note: If used with drawer units, install leveling washers on the front casters (see "level your drawer units").

Tabletop
Fits on top unit of any stack, providing it with a load-carrying surface.

Disc Cabinets
For the model with door, decide if you want it to open left or right. To change direction, turn the unit upside down (it is symmetrical). Now install the tablepins.

The wire dividers are removable; simply pull them out of their sockets.

Drawer Units
Stack them in any order with other units. If you wish to remove or rearrange the drawer dividers, first remove the drawer from the case by engaging the release levers on the drawer slides and then pulling it out.

The CD drawer layout can be changed to DVD/VHS. Remove one of the front-to-back-dividers and move the other to the center while leaving the extreme left and right dividers in place.

Tablepins
To facilitate stacking, install tablepins in the top alignment holes of all units. Be sure to hammer the tablepins all the way in. If they are protruding too far, they may damage the tabletop. It is OK if the point of the tablepin becomes flattened on hammering.

Warning: Beware of the file drawer syndrome the tipping of a unit when one or more heavily loaded drawers are pulled out without adequate counterweight.

To counterbalance, place heavy objects on top (components, a full disc cabinet, a television set, etc.). Also pull out only one drawer at a time.

Safety Clips
Use safety clips to secure top drawer unit to unit below. Helps prevent the "file drawer syndrome." Attach clip at center of cross braces on each side of the units.

Important note: Level your drawer units
System 19 drawers are fitted with state-of-the-art ball bearing drawer slides so that they will slide smoothly and easily. It is therefore important to make sure your drawer units are level; or better yet, leaning back slightly to help the drawers slide closed rather than open.

To help you level your RACKIT stack we will supply you with shims to be placed under the front corners of stationary units or washers to be placed between the front casters and their brackets on the dolly.
